Increasing Active Learning Yields Big Results Infographic

Success - P'tit Bazar 2007 (02)

Dr. Russell Mumper, Vice Dean of the Eshelman School of Pharmacy at UNC Chapel Hill, decided to try the flipped classroom concept.

He knew that with the explosion of information there was no way to teach his students everything. Instead he used his content to teach them how to become active, lifelong learners.

He then performed rigorous research to see if active learning and putting lectures online worked. The results changed his perception of teaching. Take a look at this infographic from Echo360, the tool Mumper used to help flip his traditional lecture-based class.

  1. After decades of helping people learn using highly interactive learning methods, the use of the terminology “Flipped Classroom” has really made an impact on the number of traditional instructors as well as training facilitators and training designers actually doing it. Thanks for the wonderful infographic – especially the part showing ROI on the instructional design time!

It’s great to see formal education environments experimenting – and the flipped classroom structure is loved by students – and they become active learners in this environment.
